BLURB:
Laney:

Jackson Tate and I are over. Done. Finished.

Then again, how do you end something that never really started?

Now, three months later we’re being thrown back together for the sake of an investigation and forced to coexist.

I thought falling in love with someone who didn’t want to be loved was hard but going into witness protection with the man who ignorantly took my heart? Yeah, that was going to be impossible.

Jackson:

Time and distance were what I needed to forget Laney Thompson. A Jack and Jill bathroom and the bedroom next door was what I got instead. Witness protection on her family’s farm? I was skeptical too, especially with our icy reunion. But the longer I was around her the more I realized how much I needed her.

With her, it was easy to forget.

Forget about my life and who I was, and why we needed things to fade between us in the first place. All I needed was one tragic reminder.

EXCERPT:
“So, how have you been these last few months?” Jackson asked with a slight pitch in his voice.
I tried not to let out a big fat sigh. I really didn’t want to talk about how miserable I had been or how many times I had cried myself to sleep. So instead. I said, “Good but busy. How about you?”
He did let out a big sigh and readjusted his hands on the steering wheel. “Rough… They’ve been rough.” He trailed off with a strong tick in his jaw.
So many parts of my heart wanted to hear why his last few months were rough and ask if he missed me. But asking why his last few months had been rough would eventually lead us back to the topic of the breakup, and I wasn’t ready to broach that yet.
So, I changed the subject. “So, are you ready to be on a farm? Want any pointers?”
Jackson let out a small laugh and dug into his can of almonds which was his version of road trip food. Mine, however, was a bag of Funyuns, Cheez-its, Red Vines, and trail mix.
“I don’t think I will ever be ready for the farm, but I would love some pointers.” Jackson tilted his head and looked over at me, the bill of his hat tipped back just a fraction, making him look like he really did belong on a farm.
I sifted through the pile of trail mix for the M&Ms and started in.
“So, first thing you need to know is no one will respect you right off the bat. You’ll need to be willing to put in the work and earn it,”
I dumped the rest of the trail mix back into the bag. Jackson noticed and chided, “Stop it. You know I hate it when you only eat the M&Ms.”
I shrugged and started hunting for more.
“You’ll probably be asked to clean up horse poop and collect eggs, maybe even move a few hay bales.”
Jackson carefully peeked at me before watching the road again. I was sifting through another pile of trail mix when he ripped the bag out of my hands.
“No! Jackson don’t!” I yelled, trying to reclaim the bag.
He had it shoved in between his hip and his door, out of my reach, and even if I could reach it, I’d have to get really close to him to do it.
“Give it back,” I held out my hands expectantly.
He was still watching the road as a smile crested his face. “Not until you promise to eat some almonds.” He was always trying to get me to eat healthier, which was discourteous because it wasn’t like I was pushing my artificial flavors or processed sugar on him.
“No. It’s mine. Give it back,” I demanded again. Jackson peered at me again and gave me a grin that said he was going to like what he was about to say way more than I was.
“Come and get it.”
I knew it.
I fucking knew he was going to turn this into some game. I let out a sigh and crossed my arms.
“Forget it. I’m not in the habit of feeling up man-whores.” It was a low blow but so was finding out he took someone else to Italy.

Interview With Author Lisa Schmid

Lisa Schmid enjoys conjuring up a good scare for her readers and family. When she’s not startling people (in the most loving way, of course) she takes part in charity work and pug wrangling.

Lisa is from Folsom, California, the home of the 1849 Gold Rush. She lives there with her husband and son.

Now that I’ve introduced you to Lisa let’s get to know her a little better.

Hello, Lisa, and welcome to Angel Kiss Publications. Thank you for agreeing to do this interview.

Thank you for inviting me.

What inspired you to be a writer?

My childhood was a bit chaotic and at times scary. Books provided me with a much-needed escape. I used to imagine that I was Lucy in The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe disappearing into Narnia or Dorothy getting whisked away to the land of OZ.

Because of that, I’ve always wanted to write a story that provides young readers with the same magical escape.

Is writing your full-time profession?

No. Writing is just something I love to do. This is my second act. I tend to write when the mood strikes, unless I’m on a deadline, then, of course, I’m all business.

How long have you been writing?

I started writing Ollie Oxley and The Ghost eight years ago. This is my first book. When I first started writing, I had no idea what I was doing.

After stumbling through a first draft, I attended workshops then joined SCBWI and a critique group. I think of Ollie Oxley as my book of learning.

Have you won any awards?

Not for writing, but many for my charitable work of which I’m quite proud.

How many books have you written?

Two. Ollie Oxley and The Ghost and a chapter book titled Bumble and Beans which is currently out on query.

Which genres do you write?

Adventure/Mystery

What do you find most challenging writing for these genres?

I love to write mysteries. Devising clues and ways to organically drop them in the story is challenging, but so fun!

What are you working on now?

Ollie Oxley and the Ghost-The Search for Stolen Loot (working title). I have another book rolling around in my head, but I just don’t think I am ready to write it now.

I keep trying, but I can’t seem to get the words on paper. It requires me to dig deep and unfortunately I am not that brave… yet.

Where do you find inspiration for your characters?

All around me. I base every character in Ollie Oxley on someone I know or a combination of people.

I based Aubrey, the antagonist in my story on a real-life bully (grown-up) who actually spoke with a fake accent. I think she did it because it made her feel exotic and special. In reality, it just made her look silly.

What has been your most rewarding experience since publishing your work?

I love visiting schools. Kids are so authentic. They say and think what’s on their mind. It’s awesome

What advice would you give to authors just starting out?

Join an organization like the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators-SCBWI. I wasted so much time and made so many mistakes that could’ve been avoided had I known an organization like this existed.

Not only is it a fantastic resource, but I have met some of my best friends through SCBWI. Find an organization that fits your writing, and you will find your tribe.

Is there anything else you’d like your readers to know about you?

I am a kidlit fangirl at heart. I get giddy any time I meet an author or illustrator I admire. I love attending the LA SCBWI conference.

You never know who you are going to meet. Last year, I chased down an illustrator whose work I love. I babbled and got a bit weepy when I met her. So embarrassing.

What message are you sharing in your books?

There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel, you have to keep moving forward. And above all, be kind.

What are your favorite books/authors?

I love children’s books. I especially enjoy books with magic like Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia.

I think I am mentally stuck at age nine. My favorite authors are C.S. Lewis, L. Frank Baum, J.K. Rowling, Roald Dahl, and Jonathan Stroud.

Right now I am reading The Hotel Between by Sean Easley-the world building is fabulous!

I think we’re kindred spirits. I love children’s books too. I have a large collection of picture books and children’s novels and I’m always scouring the library shelves for more to read.

What are your favorite movies, TV shows?

I am obsessed with all things British. I love British dramas and mysteries, and of course Dr. Who. As far as movies, I love all the Harry Potter movies.

But right now, topping the list of all-time favorite movies is Mary Poppins Returns. I gasped with delight at the opening of the gas lamp scene.

When you’re not writing where can we find you?

Hanging out with my husband, Erik and son, Ollie. Most days I am shuttling Ollie to and from sports or guitar lessons.

A movie producer wants to turn your book into a movie and you get to make a cameo. What would you do in the movie?

I adore British actress Olivia Colman. I don’t even mind if she keeps the accent when playing me. That would up my cool factor.

An elf named 12-25 approaches you. He’s sneezing, wheezing, coughing and there’s a strange tattoo of a snoring dog on his cheek. What do you do?

Break out a pen and paper and ask his story.

Do you have a website/Facebook page, etc?

Where can we find your books?

Everywhere books are sold.

Thank you, Lisa, for spending time with us and sharing your story. We wish you continued success and lots of luck! Keep us posted on the status of your query for Bumble and Beans and have fun on your continued writing journey.

Interview With Blogger Ivana Atanasova

Ivana Atanasova is a bibliophile. She enjoys books so much she’s read hundreds and reviewed them on her blog, Diary Of Difference, with every intention to read and review hundreds more.

You go girl! People like Ivana provide authors with honest reviews and credible feedback. Thank you for that.

A native of Skopje, Macedonia, Ivana now lives in the UK.  Before moving to England, she was a National Karate Champion of Macedonia.

Now that I’ve introduced you to Ivana let’s get to know her a little better.

Hello, Ivana, welcome to Angel Kiss Publications. Thank you for agreeing to do this interview.

Thank you so much for this opportunity. I am so excited to do this!

What inspired you to be a blogger?

I have always wanted to write and share my experiences with people. When I found out I could start a blog, I was really excited to share my thoughts and see how people would react to it.

Can you tell us a little about Diary of Difference?

Diary of Difference is a blog about books and postcards. I mostly write book reviews, but you can also find my postcard collection there as well, as I receive them.

How many postcards have you collected?

There are now too many to count. I would say around 400 or more.

What is it about postcards that you like so much?

I love the fact that you can see a piece of the world, or someone else’s culture in a glance. Because you only have such a small space to write, people make sure they write meaningful things, and it is always such a joy to read that.

Is blogging your full-time profession?

No, I blog in my free time. During the day, I am an administrator.

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging since 2014, but these last two years I have dedicated way more time and effort into it.

How many books have you reviewed?

Over 300 books so far.

Which genres do you review?

Mostly Young-Adult and Mystery, but I read various genres too. The blurb is more important to me, rather than the genre.

What do you find most challenging reviewing for these genres?

I would have to say sometimes, it is really hard to judge a book, because after you finish it, and something is off, it is not always easy to know exactly what. It’s also important for me to stay true to myself with each review, as there are people that read my reviews and trust my judgements. I couldn’t compromise my reader’s trust for anything.

What are you reviewing now?

My last review was A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, I am currently reading The Guilty Party by Mel McGrath and after that I will be reading To Best the Boys by Mary Weber.

What has been your most rewarding experience since you started blogging?

Knowing that people read my reviews, and share the love of books with me. With the book community, I have met so many amazing friends.

What advice would you give to bloggers just starting out?

Don’t be afraid to start blogging, and choose a topic/subject you love. Also, don’t worry about the lack of viewers at the beginning. Similar people are hard to find, but you will find them. Don’t stop writing and believe in yourself!

Is there anything else you’d like your readers to know about you?

I used to train in karate and was a national champion of Macedonia for a couple of years.

What message are you sharing in your on your blog?

Love yourself, and stay true to yourself. Be happy and do what you love. Everything else will sort itself out.

When you’re not blogging where can we find you?

Reading, of course. Or in the gym, or playing video games with my boyfriend, or being on the back of his motorcycle, exploring England.

How can an author have their book reviewed by you?

If the author wants me to read and review their book, all they have to do is read the About Me page on my blog, and then complete the form on the Contact Me page. It’s quite simple.
